HAVEN Smart Lock

Project Status

We have developed a working prototype, a demo application, and all of the necessary web, social, and promotional functionalities to take HAVEN to the next level. We are currently half way through our Kickstarter campaign to raise money to take HAVEN even further.

We are now developing the fully functioning version of HAVEN to take to market.  Thank you to everyone for your support.

We were approached by a local startup to be a part of their team, and use our resources and talents to make HAVEN a reality. Since it’s genesis, HAVEN has become our main focus for now, and we couldn’t be happier working for such a great team of talented and driven individuals.

The Website

While the website has taken many forms since we started, we have finally rolled out the fully functional web home for HAVEN which includes:

  • Fluid responsive layout
  • UX optimization for both desktop and mobile/tablet users
  • extreme SEO optimization (we were competing with a lot of heavy traffic “Haven” contenders)
  • WordPress 4.0 CMS
  • CacheFly speed optimization (CDN)
  • A soon to be live marketplace using WooCommerce and Stripe API
  • Foundation responsive framework

The Prototype

In addition to the website, Research and Destroy Inc is responsible for the PCB design, testing, and implementation, firmware development, researching battery options, and sourcing components. During the proof of concept phase, we tried out many components from many vendors in order to find the best fit for Haven.

  • Beaglebone Black
  • Raspberry Pi
  • Arduinos
  • Launchpads and Dev Kits from Texas Instruments
  • BLE Dev Kit from Nordic Semiconductors
  • LightBlue Bean by Punch Through Design

Every device we’ve used have their strengths and weaknesses but by far the most enjoyable to work with has been the LightBlue Bean.

  • Bluetooth Low Energy
  • Wifi
  • iOS
  • Android
  • Windows Phone
  • Firebase

We are designing HAVEN to take advantage of Bluetooth Low Energy and low energy Wifi. We are creating a device that is responsive, uses energy conservatively, and remains secure against hackers and physical intruders. On top of all of that, HAVEN has to be easy for consumers to install and use everyday. It’s been an interesting challenge from Day One and that’s what we love about it.
